■ CM Story (120 seconds) The story begins at the “temporary retirement ceremony” of the high school wind ensemble, where the main character sees off the third-year students preparing for exams and says, “Let’s play together again with this group after the exams.” The conversations among the three best friends after the retirement ceremony revolve around the upcoming exams. The main character, Mr. Kiyoshima, who chose to take the general entrance exam, received words of admiration like, “Wow, that’s amazing!” with a hint of embarrassment. Mr. Kiyoshima separates from the other two at the usual intersection, marking the beginning of a period where the three, each carrying their own anxieties and loneliness, start their journey towards their respective exams. Mr. Kiyoshima, in charge of the trumpet, diligently studies past exam questions for his general entrance exam. Meanwhile, Ms. Hamao, in charge of the flute, aims for a designated school recommendation and busies herself with essay preparation. Mr. Nakata, responsible for the marimba, opts for the comprehensive selection process and prepares for interviews with guidance counselors. As time passes with each one putting in effort, Ms. Hamao and Mr. Nakata achieve success ahead of time, and return to the music room to resume club activities together. At that time, as Ms. Kiyoshima struggles with her grades, feeling pressured upon seeing the other two practice in the music room upon their success, she heads to a karaoke box to release her pent-up emotions through energetically playing the trumpet. Encouraged by the sound of her fellow wind ensemble members, including Ms. Hamao and Mr. Nakata, resuming their practice sessions, Ms. Kiyoshima, renewed, returns to her studies. On the morning of the exam day, surrounded by numerous fellow examinees at the venue, while awaiting the start of the exam, Ms. Kiyoshima envisions herself playing the trumpet’s solo. With the memories of her irreplaceable companions and the days of hard work in her heart, she finally faces the exam with a smile, remembering the message from her two best friends: “If you’re nervous, do some belly breathing!”
