**Shohei Ohtani** is a Japanese professional baseball player born on July 5, 1994 in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture (formerly Mizusawa City). He is currently a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the MLB, and is active as a “two-way player” as a pitcher and designated hitter.
History and career
After graduating from Hanamaki Higashi High School, Ohtani was selected as the first pick by the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in the 2012 draft and went professional. During his time with the Nippon-Ham Fighters, he was selected as the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2016. In the off-season of 2017, he decided to challenge the MLB using the posting system and began playing for the Los Angeles Angels in 2018.
With the Angels, he won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 2018 and the MVP in 2021. In 2024, he transferred to the Los Angeles Dodgers and is entering a new season.
